Outcomes:  
Students will be able to understand the nature of rituals that are the essential elements of Liturgy.  Students will be knowledgeable of some of the key liturgical documents of the Church and be able to apply these principles to their experience of Liturgy.  Student will experience and reflect on an experience of Liturgy from another cultural perspective.   To demonstrate apprehension of these outcomes, a final reflection paper will be written

Course Requirements:

  1. A short reflection paper on the nature of ritual (3-4 pages) 50 points 

  2. Reflection paper on an experience of liturgy from a different cultural perspective than one's own culture. (3-4 pages) 50 points

  3. A short paper reflecting on the principles and implementation of the new translation of the Roman Missal. (3-4 pages) 50 points 

  4. A plan for a liturgical celebration of some type, complete with selection of hymns, readings (if applicable) taking into account the principles the liturgical documents. (about 8 pages) and presentation to class. 100 points 

  5. Complete the assigned readings and participate in class discussions. 50 points

Attendance: 
Since this class meets only once a week you are permitted one absence without penalty. Missing more than one class will result in ½ letter reduction in final grade.
