Saint Joseph's College has taken pride in its Mass Communication curriculum and its "real-world" approach to media education. Thus, students who graduate with a Mass Communication degree find that they are well-qualified to begin their careers immediately in radio or television stations, or audio/video production houses. SJC has developed a reputation for "producing producers." By that we mean that our Mass Communication grads who emphasize news production while as a student, jump right into television markets around the Midwest. Clearly the practical experience gained working in the College's live weekly television newscast has given students a head start in the industry. In addition, hands-on work at WPUM-FM, the campus radio station has led to employment by many SJC grads in sales and management. After taking a course in media sales, students serve as underwriting team members for the radio station, raising money and learning how to "sell radio."
