SJC Merit Awards
These awards, given directly by the College, are made possible by the donor support of alumni, parents and friends of the College. All awards require full-time enrollment. In order to be considered for these awards, please review our application procedure. Renewal of scholarships is based on Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined by the College catalog.

The following awards must be granted as an incoming freshman (not transferring college credits) beginning the 2012-2013 academic year:
Honors Scholarships
- $17,000
Deans Scholarships
- $15,000
SJC Scholarships
- $13,000
Puma Opportunity Grant
- $11,000
Access Grant
- $5,000
Awarded based on academic achievement and SAT or ACT scores. Use the SJC Net Price Calculator to check possible eligibility.
The following awards may be granted to an incoming freshman or transfer student beginning the 2012-2013 academic year:
Alumni Grants
- $1,000
- Be a dependent child of a Saint Joseph's College graduate
- Have a grandparent, aunt, or uncle who graduated from SJC
- May not be combined with Family Tuition Grant
Athletic Scholarships
- Amounts vary
- Qualified student-athletes upon recommendation of the Department of Athletics
- May not be combined with Performance Scholarship
St. Katharine Drexel Grants
- $1,000
- Students who graduate from a Catholic high school or to any Catholic student who provides a letter of recommendation from the parish priest.
- Does not apply to transfer students
- May be combined with other grants and scholarships (excluding Presidential and Huhn Scholarships)
Family Tuition Grants
- $1,000
- Have a sibling from the same dependent family attending SJC simultaneously on a full-time basis
- Have a sibling from the same dependent family who graduated from SJC
- May not be combined with an Alumni Grant
Performance Scholarships
- $2,000
- Awarded on a competitive basis in Band, Cheerleading, Choir, Color Guard, Dance, Orchestra, Radio/TV, Student Athletic Training, Student Team Managing, and Theatre
- Special application required
- Student has no plans to participate in an NCAA intercollegiate sport
- Application for Admission priority date: March 15
The following awards must be granted as an incoming freshman (not transferring college credits) beginning the 2012-2013 academic year:
Presidential Scholarships
Saint Joseph's College's most prestigious award
- Three full tuition awards
- Must be a recipient by January 15 of either an Honors Scholarship or a Deans Scholarship
- On-campus competition by invitation only
Thomas J. Huhn Athletic-Leadership Scholarship
- 4-year, full-tuition, room and board scholarship
- Incoming freshmen who have exhibited exceptional leadership skills, maintained a cumulative 2.5 GPA, played basketball or football in high school and reside and attend high school in Allen County (Indiana) and its contiguous counties.
- Special application and letter of recommendation required before January 31. On campus competition by invitation only.
- Renewal Criteria
- Demonstrate Satisfactory Academic Progress and remain in good social standing
- participate in organized sports at SJC or be otherwise engaged in some useful and meaningful extracurricular or work activity
The following awards must be granted as an incoming transfer beginning the 2012-2013 academic year:
- Students must be transferring from an accredited post-secondary institution
- Must have at least 12 transferable hours
- College GPA requirement indicated below

- 2.50 - 2.99 GPA required

Phi Theta Kappa Members
- 3.50 & above GPA required
- $1,000

Ivy Tech Transfer Grant
- Grades of C- or above with a minimum GPA of 2.5
- $2,000
- Students must be transferring from Ivy Tech Community College
- 12+ transferable credit hours
