Saint Joseph's College Columbian Players to Put Twist on Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing"
The Columbian Players of Saint Joseph's College will present Shakespeare's romantic comedy "Much Ado About Nothing" on November 1, 2, 3 at 7:30 pm CDT in the Evans Arts and Science Building Theatre on the SJC campus. Admission is $5.00 for all tickets.
"Much Ado About Nothing" is one of William Shakespeare's best known comedies. It tells the story of two pairs of lovers, Benedick and Beatrice and Claudio and Hero. This production removes the play from Elizabethan England, setting it in the American Southwest in the 1890's when a volunteer regiment of soldiers returns home from the Spanish American War.
"We have a good cast with a nice combination of new talent and old hands who are handling the challenges of doing Shakespeare very well," said Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre Arts John Rahe. "This is one of the Bard's best comedies, and this cast has worked hard to bring out the funny moments as well as the touching ones."
The cast includes: freshman Biology major Randy Leik of Dayton, Ohio as Don Pedro; sophomore Biology major Daniel Amador of Highland, Ind. as Don John; freshman Psychology major Shannon Kiley of Michigan City, Ind. as Hero; senior Biology-Chemistry major Joe Karpiak of Lemont, Ill. as Leonato; sophomore Theatre Arts major Samantha Schroeder of Indianapolis, Ind. as Ursula; sophomore A.J.
