Saint Joseph's College to Celebrate Pair of 50th Anniversaries

On Saturday, June 2, Saint Joseph's College will celebrate a pair of 50th anniversaries. The annual Fellows Dinner and Induction will begin with a Mass for Deceased Fellows at 10:30 am CDT, followed by the Fellows induction ceremony and dinner.

The Fellows Program is in its 50th year of existence. The program supports specific projects essential for the well-being of the SJC campus. These include: restoring the Chapel's stained glass windows, renovating classrooms and laboratories, beautifying the Lourdes Grotto and other areas on campus, replacing the signage on campus, and creating an endowment for the renovation of the Saint Joseph's Chapel. This support has totaled more than $2 million since the stained glass window project began in 1999.

At 3:00 pm CDT, Dr. John and Anne-Marie Egan will perform a piano concert following the dinner in celebration of John's retirement as Professor Music after 50 years of teaching at SJC. His wife, Anne-Marie, taught at the College for 46 years. The concert will be held in the Saint Joseph's Chapel. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

In 2010, John Egan received the Outstanding Hoosier Musician Award from the Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA). He created numerous compositions, and his piece "An American Requiem" has been performed both in the United States and abroad.

Anne-Marie Egan is a Professor Emerita of Music at SJC, having retired in 2008 after 46 years of teaching music and French. At different times over the years, she directed the sophomore sections of SJC's general education (Core) program, chaired the Department of Music, coordinated the Humanities Division, accompanied/directed the College choir, and served briefly as campus music minister.

Saint Joseph's College, named a "character-building college" by the Templeton Foundation and a "best Midwestern college" by the Princeton Review, is a four-year, Catholic college offering 27 majors, 4 group majors, 34 minors, and 9 pre-professional programs, complemented by the nationally acclaimed Core Program. Founded and sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, SJC is located in Rensselaer, Indiana, approximately 90 minutes from both Chicago and Indianapolis, on a park-like campus of 180 acres and has an enrollment of 1,100 students.
