Qigong, Yoga Course Coming Soon to Saint Joseph's College

Rensselaer, Ind. - Saint Joseph's College will offer a Qigong Life Empowerment course and yoga course aimed at building energy and relieving stress through focused breathing and natural healing. Qigong will be held on Mondays at 5:30 pm CST beginning January 30 and ending April 2, with yoga following 6:30-7:20 pm, in the Saint Joseph's College Robinson Memorial Library, Conference Room 113 B. Each course costs $99, which covers all nine weeks. The courses can be taken in conjunction with each other for $149.

Qigong, pronounced chee-gong, is similar to yoga and tai-chi. Qigong is an exercise form that builds energy in the body and assists with natural healing through slow, graceful movements, focused breathing, and meditation. For medical reasons, people with heart disorders, seizure disorders, and women who are pregnant may not practice these breathing techniques.

The yoga course will center on the goal of attaining a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility through physical, mental, and spiritual discipline. Yoga originated in ancient India and has been shown to build strength, increase flexibility, and alleviate stress. Participants must bring their own Yoga mat.

Both courses will be instructed by Melanie Clark, M.S.W., a Level 2 Certified Qigong Instructor through the Supreme Science Qigong Foundation (SSQF) located in Miami, Fla. Melanie has nearly 16 years of experience teaching life skills, personal development, and leadership development to youth and adults.
