Saint Joseph's College Columbian Players Present "The 1940's Radio Hour"
The Columbian Players of Saint Joseph's College will present the comedy "The 1940s Radio Hour" with music by Walton Jones on April 12, 13, and 14 at 7:30 pm CDT in SJC's Evans Arts and Science Building Theatre. Tickets are $5.00 and free for SJC students, faculty, and staff.
Featuring the original charts from the Big Bands of the 1940s, dancing, and old-time sound effects, the play portrays the holiday broadcast of the Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade on the New York radio station WOV in December 1942. The cast includes the harassed and harried producer, the grouchy old stage doorman, the featured vocalist who is often drunk, a comic who wants to sing ballads, and a sultry night club singer.
"This is a fun and nostalgic show full of music and comedy that shows off the talents of our students at SJC. The cast has picked up the music, dances, and atmosphere of the 1940s very quickly. We also welcome the SJC Jazz Band to the stage production under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Paul Geraci."
The cast includes: sophomore Religion and Philosophy major Mike Sosnowski of Madison, Ind. as Pops Bailey; freshman English major Donald DeYoung of DeMotte, Ind. as Wally Fergusson; senior Biology-Chemistry major Joseph Karpiak of Lemont, Ill. as Clifton Feddington; freshman Theatre Arts major Mark Rouse of Remington, Ind. as Lou Cohn; freshman Computer Science major Brendan Massing of Indianapolis, Ind. as Stanley; senior Biology major Adam Willis of Greentown, Ind. as Johnny Cantone; sophomore Mass Communication major Angelica Potts of Rensselaer, Ind. as Ginger Brooks; senior English-Creative Writing major Elysse Hillyer of Williamsport, Ind. as Connie Miller; sophomore Liturgical Music major Ryan Dillon of Salem, Wis. as B.J. Gibson; sophomore Tanner Brunson of West Lafayette, Ind. as Neal Tilden; senior English major Hannah Sparks of DeMotte, Ind. as Ann Collier; sophomore Mass Communication major Katie Dittman of Elkart, Ind. as Geneva Lee Brown; and senior Music major Kelso Daning of Bristol, Ind as Biff Baker.
The boutonnieres will be played by sophomore Gayle Arend of Wolcottville, Ind.; sophomore Business Administration major Toriana Briscoe of Indianapolis, Ind.; junior Biology major Shannon Sacksteder of Palmyra, Ind.; sophomore Criminal Justice major Paige Kirkland of Pekin, Ind.; and freshman Theatre Arts major Karolyn Williams of Indianapolis, Ind.
Saint Joseph's College, named a "character-building college" by the Templeton Foundation and a "best Midwestern college" by the Princeton Review, is a four-year, Catholic college offering 27 majors, 4 group majors, 34 minors, and 9 pre-professional programs, complemented by the nationally acclaimed Core Program.
