Saint Joseph's College Trick or Treats for the Hungry
On October 31, 2011, a group of Saint Joseph's College students will take to the streets of Rensselaer as part of Campus Ministry's annual Trick or Treat for the Hungry. Carson Roberts, Katie Phillips, Casey Crume, and Dane VanHouten, all freshmen at SJC, have teamed up with SJC Campus Minister Br. Tim Hemm, C.PP.S '70 to organize the event. Trick or treating will be 5:00-7:00 pm CDT.
Members of the football team, several Freshman Seminar groups, the Columbian Players, and many other individuals will go to door-to-door asking for canned goods and non-perishable food items. The food will then be transported to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry. in Rensselaer, Ind. Participants will gather in the Gaspar Center on the SJC campus at 4:00 pm CDT for a briefing from SJC alumnus Ed Feicht '71 from the Good Samaritan Food Pantry, and collection bags, maps, and instructions will be distributed. Rensselaer police officer and SJC alumnus Brant Schmid '06 will help the group divide the city into manageable sections for collection. The Rensselaer Chamber of Commerce will donate bags to use for collection.
If you'd like to donate but won't be home during the collection time, food can be taken directly to the Food Pantry during the Pantry's collection hours. For more information, contact Br. Tim Hemm at timh@saintjoe.edu or 219.866.6110.
