The Process for Qualifying for a Room Using Quality Points
Quality points are calculated by multiplying a student's SJC credit hours and grade point average. Transfer credits do NOT count in this quality point total, so if you have non-SJC credits they will not affect your quality point total
If you are applying for a single room we will use your quality point total. If you are applying for a room that has more than one person (Apartments, Gallagher/Halas, or any double room) we take the group average of quality points. For example, there are 5 people in an Apartment. We will add all 5 people's quality points together and take the average. That average number will then be ranked against all the other groups who have applied for the Apartments. We have 18 Apartments available, so 90 people in total will live in the apartments (18 groups of 5 students).
Since quality points are based on SJC credit hours x gpa it is common that upperclassmen will have more quality points. It is recommended to always have a backup option if you don't qualify for a certain space. We stagger the applications for each of the different kinds of housing to be due at different times. So, if your group does not qualify for an apartment you will be notified with enough time to apply for Gallagher, Halas, and all other halls. It is ALWAYS recommended to submit a backup option as well, in the event that you do not get a room.
