Testimonials About the Computer Science Program
What Do Our Alumni Say About Computer Science at SJC?
Tom Lohmuller '11
Tier I Technical Support Engineer at Scale Computing in Indianapolis
"I was deeply intrigued by Professor Capouch -- add that to my fondness of computers and technology, which led to a double major (Music and Computer Science) by my sophomore year. Countless people went out of their way to help ensure my success. I certainly would not be where I am today without SJC, and I will forever be grateful to this institution that has made my dreams possible."
Mike Lyon '11
Tier 4 Storage Engineer at Scale Computing in Indianapolis
"The experience I appreciated most was the ability to understand the fundamentals and theories behind computing, and applying those theories in practice with diverse platforms. Employers look for people specifically with Computer Science degrees."
Steve Gredell '11
Automation Engineer on the Automation Testing team at Interactive Intelligence in Indianapolis
"I write and run automated regression tests to test out Interactive Intelligence software. These tests control mouse movements and keyboard presses, so as to simulate a real user. They are written in Jscript, Microsoft's version of Javascript. I appreciated working closely with professors; it simplified the complex topics in the Computer Science field and allowed me to thrive. If "having a job when I graduate" is one of your goals, Computer Science is a great major, and SJC is a perfect place to learn the trade."
Blake Van Eekeren '06
Business Process Manager at Vanee Foods Company, a food service manufacturer in Berkeley, Illinois
"My role allows me to imagine, develop, and implement custom systems in various departments across our three facilities. I was given hands-on experience. That skill set comes into use every day, and gives me the confidence to know that I have the ability to do anything. The first 3 years of my professional career were a direct result of the time spent with the Computer Science faculty."
Kenny Shumard '04
Training Manager at Digium, an open source telecommunications software company in Boise, Idaho
"I create and develop technical training on our telecommunications software, I oversee a team of 3 other trainers, and I manage the business of training by working with vendors, partners, and customers to drive revenue. Having small class sizes meant that I was never just a number. The camaraderie and opportunities for collaboration were highly motivating. There were continual chances to learn organically and to develop and follow my own interests."
